The JATM is built to claw that advantage back. Almost every hard number about it &mdash; range, seeker, motor &mdash; is classified, which tells you plenty on its own.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Australia will bolt it first onto the <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/fa-18-super-hornet\/\">F\/A-18F Super Hornet<\/a>, then onto the <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/f-35-lightning-ii\/\">F-35 Lightning II<\/a> and the EA-18G Growler electronic-attack jet. The government has framed the JATM as one layer in a broader air-and-missile-defence architecture, backed by tens of billions earmarked for guided weapons over the coming decade.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #5C91FF;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;border-radius:0 8px 8px 0;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7;display:flex;gap:20px;align-items:flex-start\"><div><em>&ldquo;JATM missiles are some of the most sophisticated air-to-air weapons in the world, and Australia will be the first country to operate them outside the US.&rdquo;<\/em><div style=\"margin-top:10px;font-size:14px;color:#555\"><strong>Pat Conroy<\/strong> &mdash; Minister for Defence Industry<\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">The catch: 2033<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<p>There is one sobering detail. Deliveries are not expected until 2033. The JATM is still ramping up even for the U.S. military, and export customers sit behind American squadrons in the queue. So this is a commitment to a capability years away, not a weapon rolling onto the flight line next month.
