That is what a modern combat aircraft actually costs a country that does not already operate the type: you are not buying twenty jets, you are buying an entire capability from scratch.<\/p><p>Ten of the twenty will sit inside the Bangladesh Air Force&rsquo;s Table of Organisation and Equipment. The other ten will not, an arrangement that usually signals attrition reserves and a training pool rather than a second front-line squadron.<\/p><h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Why Dhaka says it wants this aircraft<\/h2><p>Here the story becomes more delicate, because the reason given is a combat claim.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #1565c0;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7;display:flex;gap:20px;align-items:flex-start\"><div><em>&ldquo;The Rafale is considered one of the most modern 4.5-generation fighter aircraft. The J-10CE performed very well against it on the battlefield. So Bangladesh is seriously considering the aircraft.&rdquo;<\/em><div style=\"margin-top:10px;font-size:14px;color:#555\"><strong>Zahed Ur Rahman<\/strong> &mdash; Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, press conference, 25 August 2026<\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n<p>The adviser went further, telling reporters that it is now established that an Indian <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/rafale\/\">Rafale<\/a> was shot down by a Chinese-made J-10 during the India-Pakistan fighting. That is his characterisation, and it should be read as such.<\/p><p>Pakistan has claimed J-10 kills against Indian aircraft. India has not confirmed the loss of any Rafale to a J-10, and no independent verification has settled the question publicly. Treat the shootdown as contested. What is not contested is that the claim itself is now doing serious commercial work for Chengdu.<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\" style=\"margin:0 0 24px;width:100%\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" width=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/afterburner\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2026\/08\/chengdu-j-10-fighter-china-museum.jpg\" alt=\"Chengdu J-10 fighter of the Chinese air force on display\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;max-width:100%;display:block\"><figcaption style=\"font-size:13px;color:#777;text-align:center;margin-top:6px;font-style:italic\">The J-10 in Chinese service. For most of its life the J-10 was a capable aircraft nobody wanted to buy, passed over repeatedly in favour of Western and Russian types. One disputed engagement has done more for its export prospects than twenty years of airshow appearances.<\/p><h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">What Bangladesh flies now, and what changes<\/h2><p>The Bangladesh Air Force is not a front-line combat power. Photo: Wikimedia Commons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<p>Twenty J-10CEs would be the largest single capability jump in the service&rsquo;s history: modern AESA radar, beyond-visual-range missiles, and an aircraft in the same broad class as those flown by its neighbours. In the Bay of Bengal, where India operates a far larger and more capable air arm, that does not create parity. It creates a cost of entry that did not previously exist.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;height:0;overflow:hidden;margin:24px 0\"><iframe class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V7NP95UgkSY\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\r\n<p>Bangladeshi television coverage of the announcement is above.<\/p><h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Signed is not the same as delivered<\/h2><p>The process has been running since 2025, when the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus opened discussions during a visit to China in March. An eleven-member inter-ministerial committee chaired by the Air Force chief was formed that April. The Armed Forces Division wrote to the Ministry of Finance on 4 August seeking approval for the increased cost.<\/p><p>None of that is a contract. Bangladesh has been reported as wanting between twenty and twenty-four aircraft at various points, and neither Dhaka nor Beijing has publicly confirmed the final figure. A ten-year payment schedule stretching to 2036 is also a long time for a government&rsquo;s priorities to hold steady.<\/p><p>But the direction is clear enough. China has spent decades trying to sell fighters to countries that kept choosing somebody else. It now has a second confirmed customer forming for the J-10, and a sales pitch built on a battlefield claim that its competitors cannot easily rebut.<\/p><p><em>Sources: The Business Standard (25
