Reykjavik returns for the first time since 2019, timed at the crest of Iceland&rsquo;s summer season. That is the trick: it needs far fewer bums in seats to break even than a 250-plus-seat widebody, so it can open a route between two mid-sized cities that could never sustain a jumbo. American only began flying the XLR internationally in March 2026, on New York to Edinburgh.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Philadelphia&ndash;Vienna leg stretches that logic about as far as it goes. At roughly 4,321 miles, it is reportedly set to become the longest scheduled A321XLR route anywhere in the world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #1565c0;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;border-radius:0 8px 8px 0;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7\"><em>&ldquo;The A321XLR gives us the ability to serve markets that we couldn&rsquo;t serve before with a widebody.
