That is not a description of the crash sequence, which is the NTSB&rsquo;s business and nobody else&rsquo;s. It is the language of a customer who went and looked at something else, and did not like what it found.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Nantel declined to elaborate. Flight data suggests the crew was attempting a go-around when the aircraft departed the paved surface, travelling roughly 1,300 feet beyond the end before striking vehicles on the road outside the airport perimeter.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>None of that is a conclusion. Preliminary data is preliminary, human factors take months to unpick, and the NTSB has not assigned cause to anyone. Which is precisely what makes Amazon&rsquo;s decision notable: it was taken with the same public information everybody else has, plus whatever Amazon found when it reviewed those surrounding circumstances itself.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>For a contracted air-cargo operator, losing a shipper of Amazon&rsquo;s size is close to existential. Amazon Air does not own an airline. It buys lift from carriers like 21 Air, Atlas Air, ATSG and Sun Country, and those carriers build their fleets and crew pipelines around that demand. A pause of unknown length is a revenue line switched off while the leases keep running.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">The part nobody has answered<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<p>Five people died on a road next to an airport, in vehicles, doing nothing more dangerous than driving. That is the rarest and least forgivable category of aviation accident, and it is the reason this story will not behave like a normal investigation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The questions that follow are uncomfortable for everyone involved. What did Amazon see in its own review? Does the FAA see the same thing? And what does it say about oversight of the contracted freight world that the fastest consequence came not from a regulator but from a customer?<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The NTSB will take its time, as it should.
