Reuters describes Avolon as the world's third-largest aircraft lessor.<\/p>\r\n<p>With Airbus and Boeing order books stretching years into the future, a delivery slot is a valuable commodity in its own right. An airline that needs fresh, fuel-efficient narrowbodies sooner than the factories can supply them often has to go to a lessor that already holds the slots. Avolon says 89% of its committed fleet is already placed with customers for the next 24 months.<\/p>\r\n<p>The order also fits a pattern. Between July and September the lessor acquired 10 aircraft, sold 29, had 112 more agreed for sale at the end of the quarter, placed 28 new-technology aircraft from its commitments, and executed 84 lease agreements, extensions and amendments.
