By CENTCOM's count, 135 other ships have turned around in that time, and U.S. forces have destroyed 10 tankers it links to a shadow shipping network run by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.<\/p>\r\n<p>The first disabling of this second phase came within a day of the restart, when U.S. aircraft fired Hellfire missiles into the funnel of the tanker Belma near Iran's Kharg Island oil terminal, which we covered in <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/afterburner\/centcom-strikes-iran-hormuz-blockade-tanker-hellfire-july-2026\/\">America's Air War to Keep Hormuz Open<\/a>. The engine room, shaft and rudder sit at the stern of most merchant ships, so a hit there stops the vessel without breaching cargo holds or tanks and without putting a warhead into the accommodation block where the crew lives. For an aircraft with a targeting pod and a laser- or GPS-guided weapon, a stationary or slow-moving ship's stern is a big, warm, easy target.<\/p>\r\n<p>It is also a message aimed less at the Ocean Molica than at every other skipper weighing the odds. With implementation of the June U.S.-Iran framework agreement stalled over security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. forces are making sure the blockade has teeth.
