The ground around him was mined. Russian drones watched the approaches. The robot vehicles that now carry so many of Ukraine's casualties to safety could not get through.<\/p>\r\n<p>So his rescue came from the sky. On 19 October 2026 the unmanned ground systems company of Ukraine's 92nd Separate Assault Brigade said its specialists, working with neighbouring units, had flown the man out underneath a heavy hexacopter. The brigade calls it the world's first frontline evacuation of a wounded soldier by aerial drone.<\/p>\r\n<p>That claim has not been independently verified, and neither the date nor the location of the operation has been disclosed. In a statement reported by Ukrainska Pravda, the company explained that \"due to high enemy drone activity and mined terrain, evacuating him using already traditional unmanned ground systems was impossible.\"<\/p>\r\n<p>Gurzuf Defence, the drone's maker, told a more personal part of the story. The company said the soldier had spent nearly 500 days at the front-line position, kept alive by comrades who sent him food, water, ammunition and medicine by drone, the Kyiv Independent reported. When he was badly hurt, sending a team on foot would have put them at risk too.<\/p>\r\n<p>The answer was a Gurzuf heavy hexacopter, which the manufacturer handed over free of charge.
