Colorado&rsquo;s Front Range foothills offer high density altitude, unpredictable mountain winds and unforgiving ground, which is precisely why the unit trains there.<\/p><p>Density altitude is the quiet problem in mountain flying. Warm air at elevation is thin air, and thin air costs a helicopter both rotor lift and engine power at the same time.
