Se convirti\u00f3 en el <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/afterburner\/es\/aeronave\/avro-vulcan\/\">Avro Vulcan<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>Hab\u00eda un problema. A finales de la d\u00e9cada de 1940, nadie sab\u00eda c\u00f3mo se comportaba un ala delta gruesa a baja velocidad, que es precisamente el r\u00e9gimen en el que un avi\u00f3n despega, aterriza y muere su tripulaci\u00f3n. As\u00ed que Avro construy\u00f3 primero un prototipo peque\u00f1o, y un piloto de pruebas muri\u00f3 al intentar averiguarlo.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"background:#f5f5f5;padding:20px;border-radius:8px;margin:24px 0\"><p style=\"margin:0 0 10px;font-weight:700;font-size:17px\">Datos r\u00e1pidos<\/p><ul style=\"margin:0;padding-left:18px;line-height:1.8\"><li><strong>Tipo:<\/strong> Avro 707, avi\u00f3n experimental de investigaci\u00f3n de ala delta<\/li><li><strong>Objetivo:<\/strong> Para explorar el ala delta sin cola elegida para el Avro 698, m\u00e1s tarde el Vulcan<\/li><li><strong>Escala:<\/strong> Aerodin\u00e1micamente, tiene aproximadamente un tercio del tama\u00f1o del Vulcan.<\/li><li><strong>Especificaci\u00f3n:<\/strong> Especificaci\u00f3n E.15\/48 del Ministerio de Suministros<\/li><li><strong>Primer vuelo:<\/strong> 4 de septiembre de 1949, desde la base a\u00e9rea de RAF Boscombe Down<\/li><li><strong>Motor:<\/strong> Un \u00fanico turborreactor centr\u00edfugo Rolls-Royce Derwent<\/li><li><strong>Variantes:<\/strong> 707, 707B, 707A y el 707C de dos plazas<\/li><li><strong>Destino:<\/strong> El \u00faltimo ejemplar en vuelo fue inmovilizado en tierra en 1967; tres se conservan en museos.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Una maqueta en la que podr\u00edas sentarte.<\/h2>\r\n<p>El 707 fue principalmente obra de Stuart Davies, dise\u00f1ador jefe de Avro. Era peque\u00f1o, sencillo y se construy\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente; tan r\u00e1pido que la cabina del primer prototipo se tom\u00f3 directamente de un Gloster Meteor. El ala ten\u00eda un \u00e1ngulo de flecha de unos 50 grados, con elevadores internos y alerones externos en el borde de salida, una aleta y un tim\u00f3n convencionales, y frenos aerodin\u00e1micos retr\u00e1ctiles por encima y por debajo del ala.<\/p>\r\n<p>Avro tambi\u00e9n hab\u00eda planeado un avi\u00f3n a media escala, el Avro 710. Foto: Wikimedia Commons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Veintis\u00e9is d\u00edas<\/h2>\r\n<p>El primer 707, el VX784, despeg\u00f3 de Boscombe Down el 4 de septiembre de 1949 en manos del comandante de escuadr\u00f3n Samuel Eric \u201cRed\u201d Esler, subdirector de pruebas de Avro, a quien se le hab\u00eda encomendado la responsabilidad de todos los vuelos de este modelo en ausencia del jefe de pruebas.<\/p>\r\n<p>Veintis\u00e9is d\u00edas despu\u00e9s, el 30 de septiembre, el vuelo VX784 se estrell\u00f3 cerca de Blackbushe y Esler falleci\u00f3. La investigaci\u00f3n apunt\u00f3 a una posible falla en el circuito de control que dej\u00f3 los frenos aerodin\u00e1micos bloqueados en posici\u00f3n abierta, provocando la p\u00e9rdida de sustentaci\u00f3n de la aeronave.<\/p>\r\n<p>Conviene precisar qu\u00e9 se demostr\u00f3 y qu\u00e9 no. El accidente se atribuy\u00f3 a un fallo del sistema, no al ala delta. El segundo avi\u00f3n, el VX790, se complet\u00f3 seg\u00fan el est\u00e1ndar revisado del 707B, con un morro m\u00e1s largo, una cabina diferente, un \u00e1ngulo de flecha de 51 grados y una pata de aterrizaje delantera alargada para que el avi\u00f3n se asentara en un \u00e1ngulo mayor para el despegue y el aterrizaje. El tercero, el primer 707A, se encarg\u00f3 de los vuelos de mayor velocidad a partir de finales de 1953.<\/p>\r\n<p>Fundamentalmente, el segundo y el tercer avi\u00f3n volaron antes que el Vulcan. La mayor parte de lo que Avro aprendi\u00f3 sobre el comportamiento de su ala delta provino de esos dos peque\u00f1os reactores, y se aplic\u00f3 directamente al borde de ataque y a las superficies de control del bombardero de tama\u00f1o real.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;height:0;overflow:hidden;margin:24px 0\"><iframe class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ac4cwoUL46c\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0;border-radius:8px\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\r\n<p>Los cuatro 707 supervivientes siguieron volando mucho despu\u00e9s de que se solucionaran los problemas del Vulcan, realizando investigaciones generales para el Royal Aircraft Establishment y, posteriormente, para los Laboratorios de Investigaci\u00f3n Aeron\u00e1utica de Australia. El Vulcan, en cambio, prest\u00f3 servicio durante m\u00e1s de tres d\u00e9cadas y realiz\u00f3 la misi\u00f3n de bombardeo m\u00e1s larga de la historia hasta ese momento. Esto fue posible, en parte, gracias a que cuatro peque\u00f1os aviones de investigaci\u00f3n ya hab\u00edan explorado los l\u00edmites de su ala.<\/p>\r\n<p>El \u00faltimo 707 fue retirado del servicio en 1967.
