It entered service in 2003. Wikipedia sums up the design intent as an aircraft designed to be a low-cost system operated in low-threat environments.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has seen a lot of combat. Colombia flew its first combat missions with it in January 2007 against FARC guerrillas. In June 2009 a Brazilian A-29 fired the first warning shot under Brazil's shoot-down law at a Cessna coming in from Bolivia.
