On 12 September 2026, Lockheed posted a short clip of a shadowy aircraft silhouette captioned &ldquo;Next level unlocked. More to come.&rdquo; The Aviationist noted that the silhouette matched the Vectis keychains handed out at the Farnborough Airshow in July, the only official front view of the aircraft. Two days later Lockheed announced that Skunk Works was adding four more Vectis vehicles to production, and showed a full-scale model at the Air, Space &amp; Cyber Conference; we reported it in <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/afterburner\/lockheed-vectis-four-more-prototypes-afa-2026\/\">Lockheed Vectis: Four More Prototypes, First Flight 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">What Vectis Is<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vectis is a stealthy, autonomous Group 5 collaborative combat aircraft that Skunk Works unveiled in September 2025 as a clean-sheet, company-funded design. It is meant to fly alongside crewed fighters on air-to-air, air-to-ground and reconnaissance missions. Lockheed has said it is smaller than an F-16, that the prototype will use a Williams International FJ44-4 turbofan, and that it aims to fly by the end of 2027. Skunk Works general manager O.J. Sanchez said at the reveal that Vectis offered best-in-class survivability at the CCA price point.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Other Possibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skunk Works is also where the SR-71, the F-117 and the U-2 came from, and the teaser has revived speculation about a hypersonic successor to the Blackbird, often called the SR-72, which Lockheed has discussed publicly in the past but has never shown.
