Il devint le <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/afterburner\/fr\/aeronef\/avro-vulcan\/\">Avro Vulcan<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>Il y avait un probl\u00e8me. \u00c0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1940, personne ne savait comment une aile delta \u00e9paisse se comportait \u00e0 basse vitesse, soit pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment le r\u00e9gime dans lequel un avion d\u00e9colle, atterrit et perd son \u00e9quipage. Petit, simple et construit rapidement \u2013 si rapidement que la verri\u00e8re du premier prototype provenait directement d&#039;un Gloster Meteor \u2013, il pr\u00e9sentait une fl\u00e8che d&#039;environ 50 degr\u00e9s, des gouvernes de profondeur internes et des ailerons externes sur le bord de fuite, une d\u00e9rive et un gouvernail classiques, ainsi que des a\u00e9rofreins r\u00e9tractables au-dessus et en dessous de l&#039;aile.<\/p>\r\n<p>Avro avait \u00e9galement pr\u00e9vu un avion \u00e0 demi-\u00e9chelle, l&#039;Avro 710. Photo\u00a0: Wikimedia Commons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Vingt-six jours<\/h2>\r\n<p>Le premier 707, VX784, a vol\u00e9 depuis Boscombe Down le 4 septembre 1949 aux mains du chef d&#039;escadron Samuel Eric \u201c Red \u201d Esler, pilote d&#039;essai en chef adjoint d&#039;Avro, qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9 de tous les vols sur ce type d&#039;appareil en l&#039;absence du pilote d&#039;essai en chef.<\/p>\r\n<p>Vingt-six jours plus tard, le 30 septembre, le vol VX784 s&#039;\u00e9crasa pr\u00e8s de Blackbushe et Esler p\u00e9rit dans l&#039;accident. L&#039;enqu\u00eate mit en \u00e9vidence une d\u00e9faillance pr\u00e9sum\u00e9e du circuit de commande, qui aurait bloqu\u00e9 les a\u00e9rofreins en position ouverte, provoquant le d\u00e9crochage de l&#039;appareil.<\/p>\r\n<p>Il convient de pr\u00e9ciser ce que cela a prouv\u00e9 et ce que cela n&#039;a pas prouv\u00e9. L&#039;accident a \u00e9t\u00e9 attribu\u00e9 \u00e0 un d\u00e9faut du syst\u00e8me, et non \u00e0 l&#039;aile delta. Le deuxi\u00e8me appareil, le VX790, fut construit selon les normes du 707B modifi\u00e9, avec un nez plus long, une verri\u00e8re diff\u00e9rente, une fl\u00e8che de 51 degr\u00e9s et un train avant allong\u00e9 afin d&#039;incliner l&#039;avion davantage au d\u00e9collage et \u00e0 l&#039;atterrissage. Le troisi\u00e8me, le premier 707A, prit en charge les vols \u00e0 plus grande vitesse \u00e0 partir de la fin de 1953.<\/p>\r\n<p>Point crucial, les deuxi\u00e8me et troisi\u00e8me appareils ont vol\u00e9 avant le Vulcan. La plupart des enseignements tir\u00e9s par Avro du comportement de son aile delta provenaient de ces deux petits avions \u00e0 r\u00e9action, et ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 directement int\u00e9gr\u00e9s au bord d&#039;attaque et aux gouvernes du bombardier grandeur nature.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;height:0;overflow:hidden;margin:24px 0\"><iframe class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ac4cwoUL46c\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0;border-radius:8px\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\r\n<p>Les quatre 707 survivants continu\u00e8rent de voler longtemps apr\u00e8s la mise au point du Vulcan, effectuant des recherches g\u00e9n\u00e9rales pour le compte du Royal Aircraft Establishment, puis pour les Aeronautical Research Laboratories en Australie. Le Vulcan a ensuite servi pendant plus de trente ans et a effectu\u00e9 la plus longue mission de bombardement de l&#039;histoire \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9poque. Il a pu r\u00e9aliser cet exploit en partie gr\u00e2ce aux quatre petits avions de recherche qui avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 explor\u00e9 les limites de son aile.<\/p>\r\n<p>Le dernier 707 a \u00e9t\u00e9 immobilis\u00e9 au sol en 1967.
