An emergency airworthiness directive published in the Federal Register on 13 October 2026, effective the next day, bars every Elixir in the US from flying until FAA-approved inspection or modification procedures exist and have been carried out.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only three US-registered aircraft are primarily affected, according to FLYING. According to the BEA's initial report, as summarised by FLYER, the left flap detached during the final turn onto Runway 12 on a low circuit. The pilots lost control. The aircraft's ballistic recovery parachute was deployed but at too low a height, and the Elixir struck the ground inside the perimeter of the neighbouring French Air and Space Force base, BA 721. Both test pilots were killed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #d32f2f;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7\"><em>&ldquo;severe technical failure&rdquo;<\/em><div style=\"margin-top:10px;font-size:14px;color:#555\"><strong>Gen. Mathieu Deflandre<\/strong> &mdash; commander of Air Base 721, to AFP, as reported by AeroCorner<\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why the flap separated is not yet known. The BEA says the circumstances and causes remain under investigation, and prosecutors in La Rochelle have opened a judicial inquiry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">From Factory Grounding to Worldwide Grounding<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elixir acted first.
