The captain set the autopilot to hold 2,000 feet so the crew could troubleshoot in a holding pattern over the dark Everglades.<\/p><p>Somewhere in the fiddling, someone bumped the control column, and the autopilot&rsquo;s altitude hold quietly disengaged. The TriStar began a descent so gentle that no one felt it. A soft altitude-alert chime sounded near an empty crew station.
