Ma un volo dell&#039;American Airlines, questo mese, ha silenziosamente fatto la storia: \u00e8 stato il primo volo commerciale di linea negli Stati Uniti alimentato da eSAF, un carburante sintetico per aerei prodotto, in pratica, a partire da anidride carbonica di scarto ed elettricit\u00e0.<\/p>\r\n<p>American Airlines e il suo partner, l&#039;azienda di carburanti puliti Infinium, hanno annunciato il traguardo il 6 agosto 2026. Altrettanto importante quanto il volo in s\u00e9 \u00e8 stato il suo aspetto ordinario: il carburante ha viaggiato attraverso una normale rete di rifornimento aeroportuale ed \u00e8 stato caricato su un normale aereo, senza modifiche al velivolo e senza alcuna gestione speciale al gate.<\/p>\r\n<p>Si tratta di una piccola quantit\u00e0 di un carburante molto raro. Ma \u00e8 anche un&#039;anteprima di come potrebbe essere il volo a basse emissioni di carbonio in futuro, ammesso che l&#039;industria riesca mai a produrne a sufficienza.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<div style=\"background:#f5f5f5;border-radius:6px;padding:20px 24px;margin:24px 0;border-left:4px solid #5C91FF\">\r\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 12px;font-weight:700;font-size:18px;color:#222\">Informazioni rapide<\/p>\r\n<ul style=\"margin:0;padding-left:18px;line-height:1.8;color:#333\">\r\n<li><strong>Pietra miliare:<\/strong> primo volo commerciale passeggeri statunitense alimentato da eSAF (electro-SAF)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Itinerario:<\/strong> Corpus Christi (CRP) a Dallas\/Fort Worth (DFW)<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Partner:<\/strong> American Airlines e Infinium<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Fonte di carburante:<\/strong> L&#039;impianto Pathfinder di Infinium a Corpus Christi \u00e8 il primo sito al mondo su scala commerciale per la produzione di combustibili elettronici (eFuels) tramite il processo power-to-liquids (operativo dal 2023).<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Come viene prodotto:<\/strong> CO\u2082 di scarto + idrogeno prodotto da fonti rinnovabili, tramite reazione di spostamento del gas d&#039;acqua inversa e sintesi di Fischer-Tropsch<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Beneficio richiesto:<\/strong> Oltre 90% emissioni di gas serra inferiori durante l&#039;intero ciclo di vita rispetto al carburante per aerei convenzionale<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Carburante per aerei prodotto (quasi) dal nulla<\/h2>\r\n<p>Oggigiorno la maggior parte dei carburanti per l&#039;aviazione sostenibili \u00e8 prodotta a partire da grassi, oli e lubrificanti di scarto. L&#039;eSAF (e-SAF, ovvero elettro) \u00e8 qualcosa di pi\u00f9 insolito e, in linea di principio, molto pi\u00f9 scalabile. Il processo inizia con l&#039;anidride carbonica catturata e l&#039;idrogeno estratto dall&#039;acqua utilizzando energia elettrica rinnovabile. Una reazione inversa di spostamento del gas d&#039;acqua trasforma questi composti in syngas, e un reattore Fischer-Tropsch assembla il syngas in idrocarburi liquidi a catena lunga, chimicamente quasi identici al cherosene comune.<\/p>\r\n<p>Poich\u00e9 il prodotto finale si comporta esattamente come il Jet A convenzionale, \u00e8 un carburante &quot;plug-and-play&quot;: pu\u00f2 essere miscelato, pompato e bruciato utilizzando le infrastrutture e i motori attuali. Questo \u00e8 esattamente ci\u00f2 che American e Infinium si sono prefissate di dimostrare. Per un settore estremamente difficile da decarbonizzare \u2013 le batterie sono troppo pesanti per i voli a lungo raggio \u2013 un vero e proprio sostituto diretto del cherosene rappresenta quasi il Santo Graal.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #1565c0;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;border-radius:0 8px 8px 0;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7\">\r\n<em>\u201cQuesto volo rappresenta un momento significativo per l&#039;aviazione. L&#039;eSAF rimane uno dei carburanti pi\u00f9 rari e costosi al mondo, prodotto in quantit\u00e0 minime rispetto ai circa 100 miliardi di galloni di carburante per aerei che l&#039;industria consuma ogni anno. American Airlines ha stipulato un accordo di fornitura per volumi commerciali di eSAF (carburante supplementare elettronico) provenienti dal futuro progetto Roadrunner di Infinium, un&#039;iniziativa supportata in parte da un accordo separato con Citi. La produzione e le consegne dovrebbero iniziare nel 2027 e, a pieno regime, Roadrunner dovrebbe produrre oltre cinque milioni di galloni di eSAF all&#039;anno.<\/p>\r\n<p>Si tratta pur sempre di una cifra irrisoria rispetto alla domanda globale, ma ogni carburante oggi di uso comune un tempo era una curiosit\u00e0 da laboratorio.
