Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 put the <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/rafale\/\">Rafale<\/a> nose-to-nose with the <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/su-30-flanker\/\">Su-30MKM<\/a> \u2014 and it was the Rafale&rsquo;s first appearance in this drill.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Indian Air Force flew four Rafales of 101 Squadron into Subang Air Base, backed by two C-17 Globemaster III transports from 81 Squadron. Waiting for them were the Royal Malaysian Air Force&rsquo;s Su-30MKMs and <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/fa-18-hornet\/\">F\/A-18D Hornets<\/a>. A Rafale pilot rarely gets to train against a Flanker&rsquo;s brute thrust and enormous radar signature, and an Su-30MKM crew rarely faces the Rafale&rsquo;s tight delta and electronic-warfare suite. Put them in the same block of airspace and both sides learn things no simulator teaches: how the other jet bleeds energy in a turn, how its sensors behave, how its pilots think.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Malaysians bring an unusually varied hand. Malaysia needs to modernise an ageing fighter fleet, and India has become an enthusiastic ambassador for the Rafale it now builds relationships around. Flying the jet in front of a prospective customer, alongside that customer&rsquo;s own aircraft, is soft-sell diplomacy at 30,000 feet.<\/p>\r\n<p>It also fits a wider pattern.
