A tank carries a light oil. A pump pushes it through injectors into the jet pipe or exhaust, where temperatures are hundreds of degrees. On the Red Arrows' <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/bae-hawk\/\">Hawks<\/a>, the smoke system sits in a pod under the fuselage, carrying diesel-based fluid; plain fluid makes white smoke, and dyed fluid makes red and blue. Pilots trigger each colour from a button in the cockpit, which is how the team can switch colours in the blink of an eye.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Frecce Tricolori, the <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/air-forces\/italian-air-force\/\">Italian Air Force<\/a> team formed in 1961 and flying the <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/aermacchi-mb-339\/\">Aermacchi MB-339<\/a>, do the same with green, white and red.
