The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is none of those things. It is one of the two most in-demand narrowbodies on the planet, with airlines waiting years for delivery slots.

And yet on 15 October the Florida-based aviation services company GA Telesis announced its first 737 MAX 8 disassembly programme. Two days earlier it had announced a similar deal for Airbus A320neo airframes. The reason is simple economics: the parts that keep these young fleets flying are scarce, slow to arrive and expensive, and a teardown puts them straight back into circulation.

Quick Facts

Company: GA Telesis, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Announced: 15 October 2026

Aircraft: One Boeing 737 MAX 8 (identity and age not disclosed)

Parts recovered: Avionics, flight controls, landing gear equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, nacelle components

Earlier this week: Disassembly deal for LEAP-powered Airbus A320neo airframes

Not the first: UK parts specialist AerFin bought two 737 MAX 8s for parts earlier in 2026

Used parts for a brand-new fleet

According to GA Telesis, the programme will harvest avionics, flight controls, landing gear equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, nacelle components and other assemblies. They will be inspected, repaired or overhauled where needed, and sold through its global distribution network as used serviceable material, the aftermarket term for certified second-hand parts.

The company has not said which aircraft it is, how old it is, who flew it or where it will be taken apart, as Brazil's Air Data News pointed out. What it has been clear about is the strategy. Traditionally the used-parts market waits for a type to reach retirement age before meaningful supplies of second-hand components appear. GA Telesis wants to be there decades earlier.

The split-tip winglet of a 737 MAX in Boeing house colours. When an airline has a 737 MAX on the ground waiting for a component, a certified used part available today can be worth far more than a new one available in months. With thousands of MAX and A320neo aircraft now in service worldwide, demand for spares is growing faster than the factories can meet it.

GA Telesis is not the first to do this to a MAX. AerFin, the UK parts specialist, acquired two 737 MAX 8s earlier in 2026 to sell their components. Young A320neos have already gone the same way. For anyone used to thinking of the scrapyard as the last stop for a 30-year-old jet, it is a striking sight: a current-production airliner, still being built at Renton, being taken apart for its pieces.

Simple Flying on why more than ten 737 MAX and A320neo jets are set for teardown in 2026.

Sources: GA Telesis press release (15 October 2026), AviTrader, Air Data News, aeroTELEGRAPH

<use href="#mfsh-i-share"/>Share this story

Frequently Asked Questions

<details open>
Why is GA Telesis taking apart a Boeing 737 MAX 8?

GA Telesis is dismantling a Boeing 737 MAX 8 to sell its components as used serviceable material.
