Offutt shows off its own. The 55th Wing based here flies the RC-135 Rivet Joint, the Air Force's premier signals-intelligence aircraft, and the base is also home to the E-4B Nightwatch \u2014 the hardened \"Doomsday plane\" built to serve as an airborne command post in a nuclear crisis. Both are scheduled for flybys.<\/p>\r\n<p>It is not every airshow where the flyover aircraft's day job is eavesdropping on the enemy or surviving the end of the world. That is the quiet subtext of a show wrapped in bunting for America's 250th birthday: the hardware doing victory laps this weekend is the same hardware on the board every other day of the year.<\/p>\r\n<p>Gates are open both Saturday and Sunday. Bring ear protection.
