The footage is shaky, the shape is unmistakable-but-not-quite &mdash; and within hours the internet has decided it just filmed America&rsquo;s most secret bomber.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe. The video, shot around 12 August, has reignited feverish speculation that it shows the B-21 Raider, Northrop Grumman&rsquo;s new stealth bomber. Northrop Grumman&rsquo;s flying-wing bomber first flew on 10 November 2023 out of Palmdale, California, and has been in flight testing at Edwards Air Force Base ever since. It is designed to slip through modern air defences and eventually replace both the B-1 Lancer and the aging <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/b-2-spirit\/\">B-2 Spirit<\/a>. Its planform &mdash; a smooth, tailless wing &mdash; is exactly the silhouette people saw in the Kansas footage.<\/p>\n<p>There is a local hook, too. Wichita is one of the great aviation manufacturing towns, and McConnell is a busy tanker base flying the KC-46 and KC-135. A stealth bomber transiting the area, perhaps trailing a tanker, is not a wild idea. As The National Interest noted, the size and shape are at least as consistent with the RQ-170 Sentinel &mdash; the stealth drone made famous when Iran captured one in 2011 &mdash; or the shadowy RQ-180, a high-altitude reconnaissance drone the US government has never officially admitted exists. And plenty of viewers simply see a B-2 Spirit, which has been flying tailless-wing missions for over thirty years.<\/p>\n<p>That is the thing about genuinely secret aircraft: the secrecy does half the work. A grainy clip plus a famous name equals a viral sensation, whether or not the jet in frame is the one everyone hopes it is.
