That is the trick: it needs far fewer bums in seats to break even than a 250-plus-seat widebody, so it can open a route between two mid-sized cities that could never sustain a jumbo. American only began flying the XLR internationally in March 2026, on New York to Edinburgh.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Philadelphia&ndash;Vienna leg stretches that logic about as far as it goes.
