Whether Wednesday's attack triggered another closure had not been confirmed at the time of writing.<\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">The defence, and what it costs<\/h2>\r\n<p>Kuwait's own air arm is small but modern. It operates <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/eurofighter-typhoon\/\">Eurofighter Typhoons<\/a> alongside its long-serving <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/aircraft\/fa-18-hornet\/\">F\/A-18 Hornets<\/a>, and it trains regularly with US forces in the region. Fighters, though, are not what answers a ballistic missile at three in the morning. That job belongs to ground-based air defence, and the interceptors it fires are expensive.<\/p>\r\n<p>We looked at that arithmetic after Iranian missiles fell on Jordan's Muwaffaq Salti Air Base earlier this week, where American crews reportedly expended a very large number of PAC-3 interceptors in a single night. The same economics apply over Kuwait. Each defensive round costs several million dollars; each attacking drone costs a fraction of that. According to the Wall Street Journal, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is extending troop deployments across the region, with sources reading that as a signal the war could run well into 2027.<\/p>\r\n<p>For the Gulf states hosting American forces, that is the sentence that matters. It means the current tempo of nightly alerts, closed airspace and intercepted drones is not a spike to be waited out.
