There has been a months-long conflict between the United States and Iran since late February, when Washington launched Operation Epic Fury, and Iranian forces have fired missiles and drones at air bases and military infrastructure used by the US and its allies across the region &mdash; including targets inside Bahrain itself, among them the US Navy&rsquo;s Fifth Fleet headquarters.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>You do not run an international trade show, with foreign delegations and thousands of visitors on an air base, in a country whose military infrastructure is being shot at. It is a sales floor. Bahrain, Dubai and the Saudi shows are where fighter deals get nudged forward, where delegations get walked around a static line, and where the presence or absence of a particular flag says something.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Which is why the B-52 mattered in 2024. Tensions with Iran were already high; two Stratofortresses over Sakhir were a piece of signalling aimed at an audience roughly 200 kilometres across the Gulf. Some of that business will simply move to Dubai and Riyadh.
