That assumption fails when the club loses its member in a major hub, and that is what the Korean Air&ndash;Asiana merger does to Star Alliance at Incheon.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Asiana has been the Star Alliance flag at Seoul. When the merger completes in December 2026, Asiana goes to SkyTeam with Korean Air, and the business-class lounges that Star Alliance passengers have been using in Terminal 1 stop being available to them.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Incheon is not a market you can shrug at. Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Paris, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Guangzhou are all large airports where the alliance has multiple members flying in but no single dominant home carrier able to host everybody properly.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Incheon is about to join that list by subtraction rather than by growth. It is the same problem arrived at from the opposite direction: not an alliance without a home carrier, but an alliance that just lost one.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Details are thin. Star Alliance has not said how big the lounge will be, what it will look like, when it opens, or whether it will take over one of Asiana&rsquo;s existing rooms &mdash; which would be the obvious move, and would also be a slightly melancholy one.
