For 47 minutes they held formation across more than 133 kilometres, led by the biggest of them all, a five-tonne machine called the V5000 Matrix.<\/p>\r\n<p>Chinese developer AutoFlight announced the demonstration on 5 November 2026 and calls it the world's first formation flight of five eVTOL aircraft. At the front was a single V5000 Matrix, which AutoFlight bills as a five-tonne eVTOL. Behind it flew four two-tonne machines drawn from two models, the V2000CG CarryAll cargo drone and its firefighting sibling, the V2000CGF.<\/p>\r\n<p>The V5000 is the headline act. AutoFlight describes it as the world's first and largest five-tonne eVTOL, a claim AeroTime repeats with attribution, and putting it at the head of a formation of machines less than half its weight was the point of the exercise. In a mixed formation, each aircraft has to hold its slot even though lighter aircraft tend to respond to gusts differently from a much heavier leader.<\/p>\r\n<p>According to the company's release, the lead V5000 covered more than 133 km during the 47-minute flight. AeroTime, which carried the announcement on 5 November, put the airborne time at just over 45 minutes, while AIN gave the same 47 minutes and 133 km as AutoFlight.<\/p>\r\n<p>The demonstration was flown twice. In July 2023 it shared footage of three of its Prosperity I prototypes flying together, which Electrek described at the time as another world first. In May 2026 it flew a three-aircraft formation pairing one V5000 Matrix with two V2000-series aircraft.<\/p>\r\n<p>What is new this time is the number of aircraft and the spread of sizes and missions. Several aircraft working together could, in principle, move larger loads or cover a fire line faster than one machine alone, provided the software can keep them apart.<\/p>\r\n<p>AutoFlight frames the flight as groundwork for future low-altitude transport networks linking long-haul, regional and last-mile routes. It also showed visitors Sunship, a water-based vertiport on nearby Dianshan Lake that it is developing to connect eVTOLs with sea transport.<\/p>\r\n<p>The company already has commercial interest abroad: in August 2026 Indonesia's WhiteSky signed for 60 AutoFlight aircraft, as Afterburner reported.
