Suriname Air Force combat record

Surinamské letectvo a vnitřní válka

From July 1986 the National Army, under the military government of Dési Bouterse, fought the Jungle Commando of Ronnie Brunswijk and later the Tucayana Amazonas, until the peace agreement of 8 August 1992. Wikipedia records that three PC-7s were ordered for counter-insurgency in 1986, but the sources checked document no specific air action and no losses to hostile action; the killing of more than 40 people at Moiwana on 29 November 1986, which Wikipedia attributes to the military government, was a ground action. Suriname claims the Tigri area, which Guyana administers; no air role is recorded there. Where a consolidated sortie or loss figure exists in the official record it is given here; where accounts disagree, the range is shown and the disagreement named. Blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified, not because the fighting was small.

The interior war of 1986–1992, the only conflict in which the service is recorded; no specific air action is documented.

Wikipedia records that three PC-7s were ordered in 1986 for counter-insurgency and that the service flew counter-insurgency, transport and patrol missions from the mid-1980s; no specific air action is documented in the sources checked.

The war set the military government of Dési Bouterse against the Jungle Commando, a largely Maroon force led by Ronnie Brunswijk, and later the Indigenous Tucayana Amazonas. The best-documented atrocity, the killing of more than 40 people at Moiwana on 29 November 1986, which Wikipedia attributes to the military government, was a ground action. The Air Force’s aircraft purchases of 1986-87 coincide with the war, but the sources consulted do not record how they were used.

Výsledek The Kourou Accord was signed on 21 July 1989; a final peace agreement followed on 8 August 1992.

The air role is inferred from Wikipedia’s description of the PC-7 order and the service’s missions; no independent account of air operations was found.
