class=\"bodytext\">Apr\u00e8s de Gloster Meteor, le de Havilland Vampire \u00e9tait le deuxi\u00e8me chasseur \u00e0 r\u00e9action de la Royal Air Force, d'abord comme intercepteur, puis comme chasseur-bombardier. Le Vampire - construit en 3268 unit\u00e9s, fut \u00e9galement le premier avion monomoteur britannique. Les ing\u00e9nieurs ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler sur le Vampire au d\u00e9but de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, en 1941. Dot\u00e9 d'un design \u00e0 double bras distinctif, il a d'abord \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u comme un avion exp\u00e9rimental destin\u00e9 \u00e0 tester l'innovation r\u00e9volutionnaire en mati\u00e8re de propulsion par r\u00e9action. En 1944, les Britanniques d\u00e9cid\u00e8rent de l'utiliser comme avion de combat et commenc\u00e8rent la production en s\u00e9rie du Vampire, mais le premier Vampire en service op\u00e9rationnel avec la RAF entra en service apr\u00e8s la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale, en 1946. Cet avion polyvalent a \u00e9tabli de nombreux records et premi\u00e8res dans l'aviation. En Suisse, les vampires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 stock\u00e9s jusqu'en 1988, et le dernier, op\u00e9rationnel jusqu'en 1994, a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 comme remorqueur de cible, peint en couleurs haute visibilit\u00e9.
