Es sieht aus wie Science-Fiction. Ganz erfunden ist es aber nicht: Das Design ist fast direkt von einem realen deutschen Flugzeug \u00fcbernommen, das im letzten Winter des Zweiten Weltkriegs flog \u2013 der Horten Ho 229.<\/p><p>Die Ho 229 war der weltweit erste strahlgetriebene Nurfl\u00fcgler und tr\u00e4gt seit achtzig Jahren einen verf\u00fchrerischen Spitznamen: \u201cHitlers Tarnkappenj\u00e4ger\u201d. Es ist eine faszinierende Geschichte. Konventionelle Flugzeuge waren dazu nicht in der Lage. Die Br\u00fcder Horten \u2013 Reimar, das autodidaktische Konstruktionsgenie, und Walter, der Jagdflieger \u2013 glaubten, ein Ganzdeckerflugzeug k\u00f6nne dies leisten. Foto: Wikimedia Commons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Holz, D\u00fcsenantrieb und kein Leitwerk<\/h2><p>Die Ho 229 bestand aus einem geschwei\u00dften Stahlrohrrahmen mit einer Au\u00dfenhaut aus laminiertem, mehrschichtigem Holz, einem Dreibeinfahrwerk und einem um etwa 32 Grad nach hinten gepfeilten Fl\u00fcgel. Sie besa\u00df kein Leitwerk \u2013 die Steuerung erfolgte \u00fcber H\u00f6henruder, St\u00f6rklappen und Seitenruder. Auf dem Papier waren die Zahlen au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlich: Geschwindigkeiten von \u00fcber 965 km\/h, deutlich schneller als die der anderen Maschinen. <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/jetflights\/de\/flugzeug\/messerschmitt-me-262\/\">Me 262<\/a>, und spielen in einer ganz anderen Liga als die Kolbenmotoren <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/jetflights\/de\/flugzeug\/p-51-mustang\/\">P-51 Mustang<\/a> bei 437 Meilen pro Stunde oder der <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/jetflights\/de\/flugzeug\/supermarine-spitfire\/\">Supermarine Spitfire<\/a> mit 330 Meilen pro Stunde.<\/p><p>\u201cAuf dem Papier\u201d ist der entscheidende Ausdruck. Februar 1944 zum ersten Mal ab und flog erfolgreich. Reimar entwickelte daraufhin eine motorisierte Version, die V2, die mit zwei Junkers Jumo 004-Turbostrahltriebwerken ausgestattet war. Der Erstflug fand am 2. Februar 1945 statt, wurde bei einer Bruchlandung im zweiten Flug besch\u00e4digt und ging am 18. Februar 1945 endg\u00fcltig verloren. Unsere ganze Arbeit war in diesem Moment beendet.\u201d<\/em><div style=\"margin-top:10px;font-size:14px;color:#555\"><strong>Walter Horten<\/strong> \u2014 Mitkonstrukteur der Ho 229, zum t\u00f6dlichen Absturz<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Der dritte Prototyp, die V3, wurde nie fertiggestellt. Nach Kriegsende in Europa einige Monate sp\u00e4ter wurde sie von General George S. Pattons Dritter Armee erbeutet und zur Untersuchung in die Vereinigten Staaten verschifft.<\/p><h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Der Mythos der Heimlichkeit, untersucht<\/h2><p>Hier beginnt die Legende. Nach dem Krieg behauptete Reimar Horten, er habe Holzkohle in den Holzleim der Tragfl\u00e4chen mischen wollen, um Radar zu absorbieren. Eine 2009 in Zusammenarbeit mit Northrop Grumman entstandene Dokumentation taufte das Flugzeug \u201cHitlers Tarnkappenj\u00e4ger\u201d, und der Mythos verfestigte sich in der \u00f6ffentlichen Wahrnehmung. Ein separater Radartest von Northrop Grumman ergab, dass die Nurfl\u00fcgelform die Radarr\u00fcckstrahlung zwar etwas reduzierte \u2013 doch Kohlenstoff im Flugzeug absorbierte Radarwellen nur schlecht, sodass die Maschine dennoch ortbar gewesen w\u00e4re. Seine Silhouette \u00e4hnelt verbl\u00fcffend der des \u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/jetflights\/de\/flugzeug\/b-2-geist\/\">B-2 Spirit<\/a> Das geschah ein halbes Jahrhundert sp\u00e4ter, und seither fasziniert es Konstrukteure. Die US-Luftwaffe schenkte die V3 1952 dem National Air and Space Museum; die sorgf\u00e4ltige Restaurierung begann erst 2011, und heute ist sie im Udvar-Hazy Center ausgestellt.<\/p><p>Die Ho 229 hat den Krieg nicht gewonnen und war auch nie ein Tarnkappenflugzeug. Was sie aber war \u2013 ein k\u00fchner, zum Scheitern verurteilter Schritt hin zu einer Form, die die Luftfahrt erst eine Generation sp\u00e4ter beherrschen sollte \u2013 ist eine viel spannendere Geschichte als der Mythos.
