Fast niemand au\u00dferhalb Kanadas erinnert sich an den schlichten, aber robusten Jet, der tats\u00e4chlich ein Jahrzehnt lang seinen Dienst versah: die Avro CF-100 Canuck.<\/p>\r\n<p>Die eigenen Besatzungen nannten sie \"Clunk\", nach dem Ger\u00e4usch, das ihr Bugfahrwerk beim Einfahren machte. Sie war nie glamour\u00f6s. Anstatt ein ausl\u00e4ndisches Flugzeug zu kaufen, baute man es selbst. Die CF-100 von Avro Canada absolvierte ihren Erstflug im Januar 1950 \u2013 ein gro\u00dfer, zweistrahliger Kampfjet mit geraden Tragfl\u00e4chen, ausgestattet mit Radar und einer zweik\u00f6pfigen Besatzung aus Pilot und Radaroperator.<\/p>\r\n<p>Entscheidend war, dass es von einem in Kanada selbst entwickelten Triebwerk, dem Avro Orenda, angetrieben wurde. Im Dezember 1952 durchbrach Avros charismatischer, in Polen geborener Testpilot Janusz Zurakowski mit einer CF-100 die Schallmauer und machte sie damit, nach kanadischen Angaben, zum ersten D\u00fcsenflugzeug mit geraden Tragfl\u00e4chen, das im kontrollierten Flug \u00dcberschallgeschwindigkeit erreichte. Dort war sie zeitweise der einzige B\u00fcndnisj\u00e4ger, der zuverl\u00e4ssig bei Nullsicht abfangen konnte. Aber die CF-100 war es, die 25 Jahre lang tats\u00e4chlich die Eins\u00e4tze flog, bei widrigsten Wetterbedingungen.
