Beinahe w\u00e4re er aus der Flugausbildung gefallen. Und doch wurde Adrian \"Warby\" Warburton der h\u00f6chstdekorierte Fotoaufkl\u00e4rungspilot der Royal Air Force \u2013 der Mann, den die Kommandeure als ihren wichtigsten Piloten bezeichneten.<\/p>\r\n<p>Er flog unbewaffnete Flugzeuge, allein, tief \u00fcber feindlichen Flotten und Flugpl\u00e4tzen, die Kamera surrte, w\u00e4hrend die Flak auf ihn zukam. Dann, eines Tages im Jahr 1944, startete er und kehrte nie zur\u00fcck. April 1944, auf einem Flug Richtung Deutschland<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Gefunden:<\/strong> Wrackteile und \u00dcberreste wurden 2002 in Bayern ausgegraben; 2003 wurden sie mit milit\u00e4rischen Ehren wieder beigesetzt.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul><\/div>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Der Au\u00dfenseiter von Malta<\/h2>\r\n<p>Warburton fand sich auf der kleinen, belagerten Insel Malta wieder \u2013 und Malta pr\u00e4gte ihn. Von ihren zerkl\u00fcfteten Flugpl\u00e4tzen aus flog er Aufkl\u00e4rungsfl\u00fcge, die den Alliierten die Augen \u00fcber dem Mittelmeer offen hielten. Er fotografierte italienische H\u00e4fen und Konvois, die den Krieg in Nordafrika befeuerten. Um seine Fotos zu machen, flog er so tief \u00fcber feindliche Schiffe, dass er manchmal mit Funkantennen und Tr\u00fcmmerteilen in seinem Flugzeug zur\u00fcckkehrte. Am 12. April 1944, obwohl er nicht mehr im Einsatz fliegen musste, lieh er sich eine amerikanische Lockheed F-5 \u2013 eine mit einer Kamera ausgestattete Version der P-38 Lightning \u2013, um Ziele in Deutschland zu fotografieren. Er verlor den Kontakt zu seiner Eskorte und verschwand spurlos. Doch 2002 f\u00fchrte ein Flugzeughistoriker, der Absturzstellen untersuchte, die Ermittler zu einem Feld bei Egling an der Paar in Bayern. Dort lagen die \u00dcberreste einer F-5 \u2013 und ihres Piloten. Ein von Einschussl\u00f6chern \u00fcbers\u00e4ter Propeller zeugte von einem Treffer durch ein Jagdflugzeug oder Flak.
