Drei Flugzeuge st\u00fcrzten bei den Vorbereitungen ab und rissen drei Menschen in den Tod. Als am 16. August 1927 der Renntag kam, standen acht Maschinen in Oakland vor einer riesigen Zuschauermenge \u2013 und das Gemetzel ging weiter. Die anderen beiden \u2014 <em>Steinadler<\/em> Und <em>Fr\u00e4ulein Doran<\/em> \u2014 verschwanden einfach im Pazifik.
