America\u2019s 250th isn\u2019t one of them.&rdquo; Subtle, this was not.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"max-width:550px;margin:0 auto 28px\"><iframe class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?id=2070296052905721901&theme=light\" style=\"width:100%;height:400px;border:none;border-radius:12px;overflow:hidden\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n<p>A full 30-second version followed on YouTube &mdash; &ldquo;Stealth Meets Spotlight: B-21 Blows Out 250 Candles to Celebrate America\u2019s Birthday&rdquo; &mdash; showing a Raider roaring low over the Utah salt flats. On July 1, the company doubled down with another post: an eyes emoji, a cake emoji and a flag. By then, the military-aviation corner of X had talked itself into a Fourth of July B-21 debut over the capital. Even the White House stoked the fire, with the president promising flyovers featuring &ldquo;the most planes, the newest planes, the fastest planes.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;height:0;overflow:hidden;margin:24px 0\"><iframe class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2ukXpvF6iT8\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0;border-radius:8px\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">The Answer From Edwards<\/h2>\n\n<p>Then the Air Force turned the lights on. Asked directly by The War Zone whether the Raider would take part in any 250th anniversary events, an Air Force official was unambiguous: &ldquo;The B-21 will not take part in any flyovers for this week\u2019s celebration.&rdquo; Not on July 4, and not in any of the follow-on flyovers running through July 10.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #5C91FF;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;border-radius:0 8px 8px 0;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7;display:flex;gap:20px;align-items:flex-start\"><div><em>&ldquo;No, no, the program is going really, really well, but the planes are out at Edwards, and we just started doing refueling. So to get a B-21 here [for the Fourth], not going to happen.&rdquo;<\/em><div style=\"margin-top:10px;font-size:14px;color:#555\"><strong>Troy Meink<\/strong> &mdash; Secretary of the Air Force, to Air &amp; Space Forces Magazine<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the whole story, and it\u2019s a perfectly good one: the only two flying B-21s are pre-production test aircraft in the middle of a flight-test campaign. They began aerial refueling trials just weeks ago &mdash; a milestone that produced the first overhead photos of the jet. The Air Force is accelerating preparations to send B-21s to their first operational home at Ellsworth Air Force Base, and Secretary Meink says the programme is running well. The service still plans to buy at least 100 Raiders &mdash; a fleet that will eventually replace both the B-1B and the B-2.<\/p>\n\n<p>Washington\u2019s crowds still got their stealth bomber moment: a B-2 Spirit swept over the Mall in the tri-bomber formation alongside the B-1B and B-52. As for the B-21 &mdash; a jet built around the idea of not being seen &mdash; skipping the biggest public spectacle of the decade might be the most on-brand move it could have made.
