The driver said he had simply come to look at the B-2. He was told to stop photographing the base and sent on his way.<\/p>\r\n<p>The next day, he came back and kept shooting.<\/p>\r\n<p>That decision has now cost Qilin Wu, a Chinese national, six months in federal custody &mdash; and a one-way trip out of the country. Members of the 509th Security Forces Squadron responded to the suspicious minivan; Wu told them he wanted to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/jetflights\/fr\/aeronef\/b-2-esprit\/\">B-2 Spirit<\/a>. Warned off, he returned the following day and photographed more than the aircraft &mdash; the base perimeter and its infrastructure too. US Air Force photo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">A 1950 law, back in service<\/h2>\r\n<p>Prosecutors reached for Section 795 of Title 18 and Executive Order 10104, a Cold War statute that bans unauthorized photographs of designated military installations, aircraft and equipment. Written in an age of film cameras and Soviet agents, it fit an age of smartphones and ambiguity surprisingly well.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;height:0;overflow:hidden;margin:24px 0\"><iframe class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uBj3YVhwCeE\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0;border-radius:8px\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Why the Air Force cared<\/h2>\r\n<p>Investigators were blunt about what made this different. It was not one photo &mdash; it was the return, the focus on the perimeter, the admissions about other bases. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations framed the case as a template for an era in which the threat wears civilian clothes and carries a phone.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #1565c0;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;border-radius:0 8px 8px 0;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7\"><em>&ldquo;For our Special Agents, this isn&rsquo;t about a single case. He was processed on an immigration detainer and is to be deported to China.
