Il s&#039;agit g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement d&#039;un appareil converti, souvent peu esth\u00e9tique, et s&#039;il \u00e9choue, c&#039;est toute l&#039;escadrille qui p\u00e9rit.<\/p>\n\n<p>La guerre \u00e9lectronique est la discipline la moins visible de la guerre a\u00e9rienne et sans doute la plus d\u00e9cisive. Le Japon vient de commencer les essais en vol d&#039;un nouveau syst\u00e8me. En r\u00e9alit\u00e9, il s&#039;agit d&#039;un probl\u00e8me de rapport signal\/bruit.<\/p>\n\n<p>Un radar fonctionne en \u00e9mettant de l&#039;\u00e9nergie et en d\u00e9tectant la faible fraction r\u00e9fl\u00e9chie par une cible. L&#039;\u00e9cho est extr\u00eamement faible. Un brouilleur n&#039;a qu&#039;\u00e0 injecter suffisamment de bruit dans la m\u00eame bande de fr\u00e9quences, depuis la m\u00eame direction, pour que l&#039;op\u00e9rateur ne puisse plus distinguer l&#039;\u00e9cho.<\/p>\n\n<p>Il s&#039;agit de brouillage, et c&#039;est sa version la plus rudimentaire. Son principal inconv\u00e9nient est \u00e9vident\u00a0: un \u00e9cran satur\u00e9 de bruit indique pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00e0 l&#039;ennemi la position du brouilleur, or le rel\u00e8vement du signal est une solution de ciblage.<\/p>\n\n<p>Le travail sophistiqu\u00e9 consiste donc \u00e0 tromper plut\u00f4t qu&#039;\u00e0 brouiller les pistes. Il s&#039;agit de recevoir le signal ennemi, de le modifier et de le retransmettre afin que le radar d\u00e9tecte une cible inexistante ou calcule une distance erron\u00e9e pour une cible existante. Correctement ex\u00e9cut\u00e9, le proc\u00e9d\u00e9 est infaillible\u00a0: l&#039;op\u00e9rateur ne se rend pas compte qu&#039;il est tromp\u00e9. Ce dont il a besoin, c&#039;est de puissance \u00e9lectrique, de capacit\u00e9 de refroidissement, d&#039;une grande surface d&#039;antenne et d&#039;une autonomie importante, autant de caract\u00e9ristiques qui favorisent un gros a\u00e9ronef.<\/p>\n\n<p>C\u2019est pourquoi les brouilleurs \u00e0 distance sont des avions de transport et de ligne convertis, et c\u2019est ce qui explique leur apparence. L\u2019EC-2 japonais est un cargo Kawasaki C-2 transform\u00e9. L\u2019EA-37B Compass Call est un jet d\u2019affaires. Le MC-55A Peregrine est un Gulfstream. Une nacelle con\u00e7ue pour contrer les radars sovi\u00e9tiques de l&#039;\u00e9poque du Vietnam est rest\u00e9e en service de premi\u00e8re ligne pendant toute la carri\u00e8re du Prowler, puis a \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9e sur le Growler, d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e sur le nouvel appareil en 2010. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 mise \u00e0 jour \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, mais son architecture sous-jacente date d&#039;une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 les radars \u00e9taient analogiques, \u00e0 balayage m\u00e9canique et relativement simples \u00e0 caract\u00e9riser.<\/p>\n\n<p>Les menaces modernes, elles, ne le sont pas. Un radar AESA peut changer de fr\u00e9quence d&#039;impulsion en impulsion, r\u00e9partir son \u00e9nergie sur une bande de fr\u00e9quences pour se confondre avec le bruit de fond et adapter sa forme d&#039;onde lorsqu&#039;il d\u00e9tecte des interf\u00e9rences. Elle r\u00e9pond \u00e0 un probl\u00e8me pr\u00e9cis\u00a0: les r\u00e9seaux de d\u00e9fense a\u00e9rienne int\u00e9gr\u00e9s sont devenus v\u00e9ritablement difficiles \u00e0 p\u00e9n\u00e9trer.<\/p>\n\n<p>La menace ne se limite plus \u00e0 un radar et \u00e0 un lanceur. Elle r\u00e9side dans un r\u00e9seau maill\u00e9 de capteurs fonctionnant sur diff\u00e9rentes bandes de fr\u00e9quences et reli\u00e9s par des liaisons de donn\u00e9es, de sorte qu&#039;aucun syst\u00e8me n&#039;a besoin de surveiller une cible en permanence et que la destruction d&#039;un seul n\u0153ud ne paralyse pas le r\u00e9seau. Face \u00e0 cela, la solution traditionnelle consistant \u00e0 envoyer des missiles Wild Weasels d\u00e9truire les radars est co\u00fbteuse, lente et dangereuse.<\/p>\n\n<p>Attaquer les liens entre les n\u0153uds est moins co\u00fbteux et r\u00e9versible. Si l&#039;on parvient \u00e0 perturber la capacit\u00e9 du r\u00e9seau \u00e0 fusionner ses propres donn\u00e9es, il n&#039;est pas n\u00e9cessaire de d\u00e9truire quoi que ce soit. Ce type de renseignement est parmi les plus pr\u00e9cieux que chaque \u00c9tat poss\u00e8de, car il devient obsol\u00e8te d\u00e8s que l\u2019adversaire apprend que vous le d\u00e9tenez. Si un adversaire d\u00e9couvre quelles formes d\u2019onde vous pouvez neutraliser, il les modifie, et votre avantage dispara\u00eet du jour au lendemain.<\/p>\n\n<p>C\u2019est pourquoi les capacit\u00e9s de guerre \u00e9lectronique ne sont d\u00e9crites publiquement qu\u2019en termes tr\u00e8s vagues, et pourquoi les nations les con\u00e7oivent elles-m\u00eames plut\u00f4t que de les acheter.
