En un seul arc de cercle \u00e9poustouflant, il pouvait atteindre les bombardiers, ouvrir le feu et dispara\u00eetre. Il fut le seul chasseur \u00e0 propulsion fus\u00e9e jamais entr\u00e9 en combat, et, de par sa vitesse, il avait une d\u00e9cennie d&#039;avance sur son temps. Il \u00e9tait aussi, pour les hommes qui le pilotaient, l&#039;un des avions les plus redoutables jamais construits\u2026 pour ses propres pilotes.<\/p><p>Con\u00e7u par le brillant a\u00e9rodynamicien Alexander Lippisch, le Komet \u00e9tait un engin a\u00e9rodynamique sans empennage, \u00e0 ailes en fl\u00e8che et d\u00e9pourvu de train d&#039;atterrissage, propuls\u00e9 par un moteur-fus\u00e9e Walter au temp\u00e9rament terrifiant. Le 2 octobre 1941, le pilote d&#039;essai Heini Dittmar propulsa un Komet de premi\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9ration \u00e0 1\u00a0004 km\/h (624 mph), devenant ainsi le premier avion pilot\u00e9 \u00e0 franchir la barre des 1\u00a0000 km\/h en vol horizontal. En 1944, il atteignit 1\u00a0130 km\/h avec un appareil plus r\u00e9cent, une vitesse qu&#039;aucun avion \u00e0 r\u00e9action n&#039;\u00e9galera avant 1953. Pendant ces quelques minutes, rien dans le ciel ne put le rattraper.<\/p><p>Le hic, c&#039;\u00e9tait le mot \u201c\u00a0peu\u00a0\u201d. La fus\u00e9e consommait tout son propergol en quatre \u00e0 sept minutes environ. Le moteur Walter utilisait du T-Stoff (peroxyde d&#039;hydrog\u00e8ne concentr\u00e9) et du C-Stoff (m\u00e9lange d&#039;hydrazine et de m\u00e9thanol). Ces deux carburants \u00e9taient hypergoliques\u00a0: ils s&#039;enflammaient instantan\u00e9ment au contact l&#039;un de l&#039;autre. Le T-Stoff \u00e9tait si corrosif qu&#039;il attaquait toute mati\u00e8re organique, y compris le pilote. Un atterrissage brutal provoquant la rupture d&#039;une conduite de carburant pouvait inonder le cockpit\u00a0; plus d&#039;un aviateur p\u00e9rit non pas sous les tirs ennemis, mais englouti par son propre appareil. Malgr\u00e9 sa vitesse, son palmar\u00e8s au combat fut maigre\u00a0: environ neuf appareils alli\u00e9s d\u00e9truits contre un nombre \u00e9quivalent de Komet perdus \u2013 et davantage de pilotes p\u00e9rirent dans des accidents, des explosions au d\u00e9collage et des br\u00fblures de propergol qu\u2019au combat. Comme le <a href=\"https:\/\/migflug.com\/jetflights\/fr\/aeronef\/messerschmitt-me-262\/\">Moi 262<\/a> Le Komet, avion \u00e0 r\u00e9action, offrait un aper\u00e7u du futur, trop pr\u00e9matur\u00e9 et trop d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9 pour changer le cours de la guerre.
