Les huit membres d&#039;\u00e9quipage ont p\u00e9ri. Le seul appareil dot\u00e9 de la modernisation sur laquelle comptait toute la flotte de bombardiers a disparu.<\/p>\r\n<p>L&#039;arm\u00e9e de l&#039;air a d\u00e9sormais trouv\u00e9 la solution\u00a0: installer le m\u00eame radar sur un autre B-52 et poursuivre le programme. L&#039;US Air Force pr\u00e9voit de maintenir en service ses 75 bombardiers de type H \u2014 des appareils entr\u00e9s en service sous la pr\u00e9sidence de Kennedy \u2014 jusqu&#039;en 2050. Pour ce faire, chaque avion est enti\u00e8rement modernis\u00e9 et porte d\u00e9sormais le nom de B-52J\u00a0: nouveaux moteurs Rolls-Royce F130 offrant une autonomie accrue d&#039;environ 201\u00a0000 tonnes, nouvelle avionique et, surtout, nouveau radar.<\/p>\r\n<p>L&#039;ancien syst\u00e8me m\u00e9canique AN\/APQ-166 est remplac\u00e9 par l&#039;AN\/APQ-188 de Raytheon, un radar \u00e0 balayage \u00e9lectronique actif qui conf\u00e8re au bombardier, malgr\u00e9 sa taille imposante, des capacit\u00e9s de navigation et de ciblage tous temps plus proches de celles d&#039;un chasseur moderne. Sur le papier, il s&#039;agit de l&#039;une des am\u00e9liorations les plus importantes de la longue carri\u00e8re de cet appareil. La hausse des co\u00fbts a d\u00e9clench\u00e9 une alerte de d\u00e9passement budg\u00e9taire au Congr\u00e8s, connue sous le nom de loi Nunn-McCurdy, contraignant l&#039;arm\u00e9e de l&#039;air \u00e0 r\u00e9duire la port\u00e9e du programme. Le premier B-52H modernis\u00e9 venait tout juste d&#039;\u00eatre convoy\u00e9 de San Antonio \u00e0 Edwards en d\u00e9cembre 2025 pour entamer ses essais en vol lorsqu&#039;il s&#039;est \u00e9cras\u00e9 le 15 juin.<\/p>\r\n<p>Les responsables du programme affirment que le plan pr\u00e9voyait d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part deux appareils d&#039;essai, le second bombardier \u00e9tant donc attendu de toute fa\u00e7on. Cependant, la perte du premier avion retarde les essais en vol de plusieurs mois, le temps que les enqu\u00eateurs examinent l&#039;\u00e9pave. L&#039;\u00e9quipe indique qu&#039;elle adaptera son calendrier en fonction des conclusions de la commission d&#039;enqu\u00eate.
