The commercial version is called <strong>Halo<\/strong>. Its military twin, shown two days earlier, is called Thunder. They share one airframe and one very deliberate idea &mdash; take the best of the eVTOL boom and point it at jobs that have nothing to do with commuting.<\/p><p>Where Archer&rsquo;s piloted Midnight air taxi runs on batteries and carries four passengers across town, Halo is fully autonomous, runs a series hybrid-electric powertrain for far greater range, and is designed to lift heavy payloads with no one aboard. Anduril&rsquo;s Lattice software handles the autonomy. Two &ldquo;optimum-speed&rdquo; tiltrotors vary their RPM to cut power draw and noise in cruise, giving the aircraft vertical take-off and efficient, runway-independent range.<\/p>\r\n<div style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%;height:0;overflow:hidden;margin:24px 0\"><iframe class=\"skip-lazy\" data-no-lazy=\"1\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o4jSffu4xmc\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0;border-radius:8px\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\r\n<p>Halo&rsquo;s commercial pitch is unglamorous and potentially enormous: offshore energy resupply, time-critical freight, humanitarian and medical cargo into places without runways. Japan&rsquo;s Marubeni Aerospace signed on as launch partner.
