Since it began flying in 2008 it has run an all-Boeing fleet of six Next-Generation 737s from its hub in the capital, Dushanbe, reaching 29 destinations across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.<\/p>\r\n<p>The jet handed over on 3 August is the airline&rsquo;s first 737 MAX &mdash; and, according to Boeing, the first MAX to be based anywhere in Tajikistan. It was leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), the Dubai-based lessor whose fleet recently crossed the 1,000-aircraft mark, and it is the first of two 737-8s the airline has committed to. Powered by two CFM LEAP-1B engines, the jet can carry up to 210 passengers as far as 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km), and Boeing says it burns around 20 percent less fuel than the previous-generation 737s it replaces.<\/p>\r\n<p>For a carrier sitting deep in the middle of the Asian landmass, that extra range is the whole point &mdash; it turns city pairs that were once marginal into routes that can actually pay their way.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #1565c0;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;border-radius:0 8px 8px 0;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7;display:flex;gap:20px;align-items:flex-start\"><div><em>&ldquo;Considering the central geographic location of Tajikistan and the improved range capability of Boeing 737-8, this fleet expansion gives Somon Air opportunity to open new routes with improved economics considering the new aircrafts&rsquo; fuel efficiency.&rdquo;<\/em><div style=\"margin-top:10px;font-size:14px;color:#555\"><strong>Abdulkosim Valiev<\/strong> &mdash; CEO of Somon Air<\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>The airline plans to fly the 737-8 on short- and medium-haul routes across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. New destinations on the drawing board include London, Beijing and Guangzhou &mdash; a reach that would have been a stretch for the older fleet.<\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">From regional to international<\/h2>\r\n<p>The MAX is only the opening act.
