The mainline flag carrier moved 248,318 passengers; its low-cost sister, AJet, added another 104,397. Between them they operated 1,970 passenger flights that Sunday &mdash; and once Turkish Cargo's freighters were counted, the group's total daily flight tally hit an all-time high of 2,034.<\/p>\r\n<p>It was not a one-day fluke, either. The Saturday before, the mainline carrier had already set its own single-day record of 248,922 passengers. Turkish Airlines manages it because of where it sits. Istanbul Airport, its home base, is built as a global transfer machine &mdash; a single mega-hub positioned within a four-hour flight of a huge slice of the world's population, funnelling passengers between Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.<\/p>\r\n<p>The airline's reach is the real headline. Its network spans 358 destinations across 133 countries &mdash; more countries than any other airline on earth. Turkish Airlines carried 44.5 million passengers in the first half of 2026, up 5.5% on the same period a year earlier, with a passenger load factor of 83.7% &mdash; meaning better than four in five seats were filled across the network.<\/p>\r\n<p>Istanbul Airport itself has been trading records too, ranking as Europe's busiest airport by aircraft movements. The airport and its home carrier feed each other: more flights fill more seats, more seats justify more flights.<\/p>\r\n<p>The airline says it expects to break more records before August is out.
