Plenty of drones do that. The clever part is that it handles its own freight. A hybrid-electric powertrain gives it range that a purely battery-powered design could not match.<\/p>\n<p>By design it carries a few hundred pounds a few hundred miles, and it does not care whether there is a runway, a tower or a fuel truck at the far end. An aircraft that can shuttle supplies forward with no crew aboard takes people out of that line of fire.<\/p>\n<p>It is also a reminder that the quiet revolution in aviation may not be flying taxis full of commuters, but pilotless workhorses moving boxes. The passenger versions are stuck in years of certification.
