It disappears into an MRO: a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, the unglamorous industrial backbone that keeps the whole aviation system flying safely.<\/p>\n\n<p>Across fast-growing Asia, there are not enough of them. The cornerstone is a four-bay hangar able to swallow wide-body jets, with additional bays configured for narrow-bodies. Most of Southeast Asia\u2019s heavy MRO work is concentrated in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, which means carriers in countries like Vietnam often have to ferry aircraft abroad for major checks \u2014 expensive, time-consuming, and a recipe for aircraft sitting idle when hangar slots are scarce.<\/p>\n\n<p>When there is nowhere to fix a grounded jet quickly, the result is exactly what passengers feel as cancellations and delays. Vietnam\u2019s civil aviation authority projects the country\u2019s MRO market will reach US$7.4 billion by 2030 \u2014 a gap this complex is designed to fill.<\/p>\n\n<h2 style=\"padding-top:22px\">Vietnam Moves Up the Value Chain<\/h2>\n<p>For Vietnam, the project is another step in a fast-moving aviation ambition that also includes the giant new Long Thanh airport in the south. The country is climbing from simply operating aircraft toward building and maintaining them \u2014 capturing the high-value engineering work that has long sat elsewhere. For Japan Airlines, it secures a modern, lower-cost overhaul base close to home.<\/p>\n\n<p>It will never make a magazine cover.
