EVA Air estimates the flight will pump more than $61 million a year into the National Capital region\u2019s economy.<\/p><p>And the symbolism is hard to miss. At a moment when relations across the Taiwan Strait are watched as closely as any in the world, a direct, scheduled link between Taipei and Washington carries a weight that a flight between two ordinary cities never would. The airline will be careful to call it simply a commercial route.
