It would also bar the service from retiring the type until a certified replacement is actually flying.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Air Force has fought for years to send the A-10 to the boneyard, arguing that a slow, low-flying gun platform cannot survive against modern air defenses and that its budget is better spent on F-35s and drones. It entered Fiscal Year 2026 with 162 A-10s and asked to retire the entire fleet by year&rsquo;s end. For troops on the ground, the argument has always been visceral rather than budgetary.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div style=\"background:#f8f9fa;border-left:4px solid #5C91FF;padding:20px 22px;margin:18px 0 24px;border-radius:0 8px 8px 0;font-size:16px;line-height:1.7\"><em>&ldquo;I know that the arrival of the A-10 creates the most beautiful sound ever heard by troops under fire on the battlefield.&rdquo;<\/em><div style=\"margin-top:10px;font-size:14px;color:#555\"><strong>Rep.
