Dankzij het grote aantal geproduceerde toestellen is er een ruime beschikbaarheid van zeer ervaren en professionele piloten, evenals reserveonderdelen en onderhoud. Bovendien zijn ze als trainingsvliegtuigen relatief goedkoop in gebruik en verbruiken ze weinig brandstof. Ze zijn ook voorzien van dubbele besturing en zijn makkelijk te besturen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">E\u00e9n ding onderscheidt de Jet Provost echter van de andere hierboven genoemde militaire straaljagers: de ongebruikelijke zitopstelling naast elkaar. Voor u als klant is dit een groot voordeel. U kunt zien hoe uw piloot het vliegtuig bestuurt en zo leren hoe u dat zelf veel beter kunt doen \u2013 wat u later van pas zal komen wanneer u zelf de straaljager bestuurt. Ten tweede is het uitzicht gewoonweg fantastisch. U ziet veel meer in vergelijking met de normale zitopstelling, waarbij de klant achter de piloot zit. Zo deelt de Percival Provost onder andere de ongebruikelijke zitopstelling naast elkaar met de Jet Provost. In 1960 werd de fabrikant Hunting Percival Aircraft (vanaf 1957 Hunting Aircraft) overgenomen door de British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) - en zo werd de Hunting Percival Aircraft Jet Provost de BAC Jet Provost. Van de Jet Provost werden in verschillende varianten 741 exemplaren geproduceerd. De Royal Air Force was verreweg de grootste gebruiker. Maar de JP werd ook gebruikt door Irak, Ceylon, Koeweit, Singapore, Soedan en Venezuela - al deze landen beschikten echter slechts over een klein aantal van deze opmerkelijke straaltrainer. De Jet werd ook doorontwikkeld tot een aanvalsvliegtuigvariant, de BAC Strikemaster.
