Derivado diretamente do Lockheed F-80 \u2013 o primeiro ca\u00e7a a jato operacional dos Estados Unidos \u2013 o T-Bird entrou em servi\u00e7o em 1948 e treinou gera\u00e7\u00f5es de aviadores em mais de 30 for\u00e7as a\u00e9reas em todos os continentes. Em maio de 1947, a Lockheed iniciou o projeto de um treinador biposto por conta pr\u00f3pria. A solu\u00e7\u00e3o foi precisa: pegar a fuselagem do F-80, inserir um bloco de 67,5 cm \u00e0 frente da asa e outro de 30,5 cm atr\u00e1s, instalar um segundo assento com controles duplos sob uma cobertura alongada de pe\u00e7a \u00fanica e colocar o resultado em produ\u00e7\u00e3o. O prot\u00f3tipo voou em 22 de mar\u00e7o de 1948, com o piloto de testes Tony LeVier aos comandos. A produ\u00e7\u00e3o continuou at\u00e9 1959. At\u00e9 ent\u00e3o, 6.557 T-33 haviam sido constru\u00eddos \u2013 5.691 pela Lockheed em Burbank, 656 pela Canadair em Quebec e 210 pela Kawasaki no Jap\u00e3o \u2013 tornando-o um dos treinadores a jato mais produzidos da hist\u00f3ria. Mais de 30 for\u00e7as a\u00e9reas o utilizaram. O jato de treinamento mais utilizado no mundo<\/strong><br>6.557 unidades foram constru\u00eddas pelas empresas Lockheed, Canadair e Kawasaki. Mais de 30 for\u00e7as a\u00e9reas em todos os continentes operaram o T-Bird. Nenhum outro jato de treinamento de sua \u00e9poca chegou perto desse alcance ou desse recorde.<\/li>\n        <li style=\"margin:0 0 18px;padding:0;font-size:18px;line-height:1.6;color:#000;\"><strong>3. Turbojato Allison J33 - Um Descendente de Frank Whittle<\/strong><br>O J33-A-35 gera 24 kN (5.400 lbf) de empuxo \u2013 um desenvolvimento direto do projeto original de turbojato de Sir Frank Whittle. O mesmo motor, fruto de engenharia reversa pela Uni\u00e3o Sovi\u00e9tica, equipava o MiG-15.<\/li>\n        <li style=\"margin:0 0 18px;padding:0;font-size:18px;line-height:1.6;color:#000;\"><strong>4. Cabine pressurizada<\/strong><br>O T-33 apresenta uma cabine de pilotagem pressurizada em tandem \u2013 uma raridade entre as aeronaves de sua gera\u00e7\u00e3o. Ao pegar uma estrutura de aeronave j\u00e1 comprovada em combate na Coreia e adicionar uma segunda cabine, a Lockheed ofereceu aos pilotos em treinamento uma experi\u00eancia aut\u00eantica desde o primeiro dia. A fuselagem foi alongada em aproximadamente um metro para acomodar o instrutor atr\u00e1s do aluno, ambos sentados sob uma cobertura inteiri\u00e7a com um painel central \u00e0 prova de balas. Os controles foram totalmente duplicados na frente e atr\u00e1s. A asa, a empenagem, o trem de pouso e o motor permaneceram essencialmente id\u00eanticos aos do F-80 \u2013 um \u00fanico turborreator Allison J33, culminando na variante A-35, que produzia 2.450 kgf de empuxo. Uma cabine pressurizada e uma estrutura refor\u00e7ada para acrobacias a\u00e9reas e treinamento por instrumentos conferiram ao T-Bird uma capacidade que superou a de quase todos os seus contempor\u00e2neos.
