Russia Delivers Its Third Su-35S Batch of 2026, Size Undisclosed

Russia’s aircraft industry has settled into a wartime rhythm, and on 27 August 2026 it produced another familiar bulletin. The United Aircraft Corporation announced that a fresh batch of Su-35S fighters had been handed to the Russian Aerospace Forces — how many, it declined to say.

The aircraft finished factory testing at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant in the Far East before flying to their operational base, UAC said. It is the third publicly announced Su-35S delivery of 2026, following batches reported in April and May.

A delivery you have to read between the lines

The interesting part of these announcements is what is left out. UAC has made a habit of confirming that a delivery happened while never stating the quantity or the receiving unit. That silence forces analysts to count aircraft in the manufacturer’s own footage, tail number by tail number.

“The number of aircraft in this batch is not specified; photos and video released by UAC show two or more.”
Guy Plopsky — Defence analyst

Because each batch is opaque, yearly production estimates vary widely — open-source figures for 2026 range from roughly seven aircraft, assuming one per announced batch, up to twenty or so if each batch holds two or three. The blue “bort” numbers on this batch match the two delivered earlier in the year.

Why the Su-35S still matters to Moscow

The Su-35S is Russia’s most capable serial-built air-superiority fighter until the stealthy Su-57 arrives in numbers. Single-seat and twin-engine, with thrust-vectoring nozzles that give it its trademark airshow agility, it carries a powerful radar and long-range missiles and has been worked hard over Ukraine in escort, patrol and stand-off strike roles.

That is the subtext of a low-key delivery notice: sanctions were meant to choke this line, and Komsomolsk-on-Amur is still rolling Flankers off the ramp. Whether it is two jets or a dozen a year, the message Moscow wants read is continuity.
