Tecnam P2008JC NG Trainer Launches in the US for Flight Schools

If you take your first flying lesson in America a couple of years from now, there is a growing chance it will be in an Italian two-seater with a carbon-fibre fuselage. Tecnam announced on 5 October 2026 that it is bringing its P2008JC NG trainer to the United States, aiming squarely at the flight schools trying to keep up with the demand for new pilots.

The P2008JC NG is the “next generation” version of a trainer that is already common in European schools. Tecnam is now working through the US validation process so that American academies can add it to their fleets.

What Tecnam Announced

Tecnam, based near Naples in southern Italy, says the P2008JC NG is aimed at both Part 61 and Part 141 flight schools in the US. The European version already holds EASA CS-23 certification, and Tecnam says it is committing resources to the validation process needed for US approval. It has not given a date for when that will be complete.

“The American flight training market is growing rapidly, and schools are urgently seeking modern, reliable, and highly cost-efficient platforms to train the next generation of pilots. The P2008JC NG is our direct answer to that demand.”
Walter da Costa — Chief Sales Officer, Tecnam, 5 October 2026

The aircraft is built around a fuel-injected 100 hp Rotax 912 iS, a carbon-fibre fuselage with metal wings and a glass cockpit. According to AVweb, it cruises at about 118 knots while burning around 3.7 US gallons of fuel per hour, which is the kind of number that makes a flight school’s accountant smile.

Why This Matters for Student Pilots

The aircraft a school trains in has a direct effect on what a licence costs. Fuel, maintenance and insurance make up much of the hourly rate a student pays, and a low-burn, modern trainer can bring that rate down. A glass cockpit also means students learn on displays much closer to what they will later use in airliners and business jets.

Tecnam is no stranger to US flight schools. Its larger P-Mentor trainer received full Part 23 certification in 2024, according to AVweb, and Tecnam aircraft already fly with academies across the country. The P2008JC NG gives schools a smaller, cheaper option for the very first hours of training.
