Every conflict the Royal Air Force of Oman has been drawn into
Wikipedia, citing Watkins (2023), says three Strikemasters were shot down in the Dhofar war; the PFLO claimed 25 aircraft and helicopters in 1975 alone, according to Orient XXI, a claim not corroborated in the sources checked, and each figure is given with the side that makes it. Oman sent about 6,300 personnel to the 1991 coalition against Iraq, but no Omani air combat role is documented. In 2026 Oman was not a party to the war with Iran: Muscat Daily attributes the interceptions of drones over Omani territory to unnamed security sources without naming the service, Wikipedia’s compilation credits the Royal Air Force of Oman, and Iran’s general staff denied ordering strikes on Oman. Where a consolidated sortie or loss figure exists in the official record it is given here; where accounts disagree, the range is shown and the disagreement named. Blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified, not because the fighting was small.

Close air support, interdiction, resupply of hill posts and helicopter troop lift for the Sultan’s Armed Forces against the DLF, PFLOAG and PFLO insurgency. The war began on 9 June 1965, before Oman had any combat aircraft. Strikemasters ordered in 1967 arrived in summer 1969 and, according to Wikipedia, flew their first strikes in October 1969. Agusta-Bell helicopters from 1971 and eight Skyvans kept isolated posts supplied, and in April 1972 helicopters dropped supplies into Sarfayt during Operation Simba (Small Wars Journal). Iran sent a task force with its own helicopters, and Orient XXI reports Iranian Phantoms by the end of 1973; an RAF Wessex flight operated from Salalah. When the rebels introduced SA-7 missiles in 1975, Wikipedia says the newly arrived ex-Jordanian Hunters proved less vulnerable than the Strikemasters, and that the rebels’ premature use of the missile cost them surprise. حصيلة The rebellion was formally declared defeated in January 1976, with isolated incidents until 1979. Casualty totals come from a single secondary compilation (ACIG via Wikipedia) and the insurgent claims are unverified; no Omani official loss figures were found.

Strikemasters strafed the attacking PFLOAG force and helicopters landed SAS reinforcements. Mirbat was attacked during the monsoon, when low cloud was expected to keep aircraft away. The Strikemasters came anyway, flying low-altitude runs beneath the cloud base with machine guns and light rockets because the ceiling ruled out heavier weapons. About 300 insurgents were attacking, according to Wikipedia’s Strikemaster article. حصيلة The attack on 19 July 1972 was repulsed with heavy insurgent losses. Insurgent casualty figures are estimates and vary widely.

Oman was part of the coalition; an Omani air combat role is not documented in the sources checked. Wikipedia’s coalition article says Oman contributed about 6,300 personnel, but neither it nor the air campaign article records Omani combat sorties. The entry is kept because Oman was a belligerent; whether RAFO Jaguars or Hunters flew operationally is unverified. حصيلة Iraq was expelled from Kuwait in February 1991. Omani participation in the air war is unverified. |

Interception of drones over Omani territory; Oman was not a party to the war. Muscat Daily, quoting security sources, reported one drone intercepted at Duqm on 1 March, two over Dhofar on 3 March and drones north of Duqm on 11 March, and attacks on Salalah port on 11 and 28 March. The articles do not name the intercepting service. Wikipedia’s compilation credits RAFO with intercepts including one over Khasab on 12 March and counts at least 19 drones intercepted. Iran’s general staff denied ordering strikes on Omani territory, Foreign Minister Araghchi said attacks were not Iran’s choice, and on 20 March Iran’s supreme leader called them Israeli false-flag operations, per the same compilation. Oman condemned the attacks without publicly attributing them. حصيلة A US-Iran ceasefire was in its sixth day on 4 August 2026 (TWZ); Oman and Iran were negotiating traffic arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz. Attribution of the attacks and of the interceptions rests on unnamed security sources and secondary compilations; the war was still unresolved in September 2026.
