Turkish Army Aviation combat record

V každé válce a operaci, ve které létalo turecké armádní letectvo

English Wikipedia lists the 1974 Cyprus operation among the command’s engagements, without detail. Its longest war was against the PKK, from 1984 until the PKK announced its dissolution on 12 May 2025; Turkey, the EU and the United States list the PKK as a terrorist organisation. In Syria a T129 was lost over Afrin on 10 February 2018: President Erdoğan, the SDF and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was shot down, while the Prime Minister and the General Staff gave no cause. Turkey regards the YPG as part of the PKK, which the YPG and its US partners reject; Iraq protested the Claw operations. The account of the 2016 coup attempt is the prosecution’s; Turkey blames the Gülen movement, which denies involvement. Casualty claims are given as each side’s claims, and blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified.

Konflikt s PKKsouth-eastern TurkeyVelitelství armádního letectva 1984–2025 Kurdská dělnická strana (PKK) AH-1W SuperCobra, AH-1P Cobra, T129 ATAKa 4 další

Troop lift, supply, medical evacuation and fire support by helicopters; from 2014 armed drones.

The PKK war, fought since 1984, is the main reason the Turkish army has so many helicopters. SavunmaSanayiST recalled in 2022 that the AH-1W SuperCobras were bought in the 1990s for counter-terrorism and that three were lost. The T129 ATAK flew its first combat mission in Siirt province on 25 April 2015, according to English Wikipedia. The Land Forces’ TB2 drones joined from 2014. The cross-border campaign in northern Iraq is listed separately. Turkey, the EU and the United States list the PKK as a terrorist organisation. After Abdullah Öcalan’s call of February 2025 the PKK announced its dissolution on 12 May 2025, as recorded in the Turkish Air Force dataset.

Výsledek The PKK announced its dissolution on 12 May 2025.

Loss and casualty claims of both sides are generally unverifiable and are not given.

Pokus o převrat z 15. července 2016GüvercinlikArmy Aviation Command (plotters and loyal personnel) 2016 AH-1 Cobra, T129 ATAK, S-70A Black Hawka 1 další

Plotters used army helicopters from Güvercinlik against state targets and to move troops and ammunition.

According to the indictment summarised by Hürriyet Daily News, the Land Forces commander, General Salih Zeki Çolak, inspected the Army Aviation School at Güvercinlik from 18:36 to 21:08 on 15 July while three Cobras and an ATAK were being loaded with ammunition and two Sikorskys rigged for troops, without recognising the preparations. The school’s commander, General Hakan Atınç, was handcuffed by Major Okan Kocakurt; prosecutors named the deputy commander, Brigadier General Ünsal Coşkun, as a member of the Gülen network and said a cargo-helicopter battalion commander flew putschists to the Türksat centre and more than a tonne of ammunition to Akıncı. English Wikipedia says helicopters bombed the police special forces and police aviation headquarters at Gölbaşı, fired on parliament at 03:08 and attacked the hotel where President Erdoğan was staying around 04:00. A Black Hawk landed at Alexandroupoli in Greece at 00:50 on 16 July with eight servicemen, who sought asylum; Greece’s Supreme Court refused extradition in January 2017. Turkey blames the Gülen movement, which denies involvement.

Výsledek The attempt failed by the morning of 16 July; the government announced on 29 July that the Army Aviation School and the Güvercinlik barracks would leave Ankara.

Details of the night come from the prosecution’s indictment and from Wikipedia; contested in court by defendants.

Operace v SýriiEuphrates Shield, Olive Branch, Peace Spring, Spring ShieldArmy Aviation Command and Land Forces drones 2016–2020 Islamic State, YPG/SDF and Syria (Assad government, 2020) T129 ATAK, Bayraktar TB2 1

Attack helicopters and TB2 drones supporting Turkish and allied Syrian ground forces.

The Land Forces’ TB2 S5 flew in Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, Peace Spring and Spring Shield, according to SavunmaSanayiST. Operation Olive Branch against the YPG in Afrin ran from 20 January to 24 March 2018. On 10 February a T129 went down at about 13:00 and both crew were killed. President Erdoğan said it was shot down and warned that the perpetrators would pay a heavy price; Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said one of two ATAKs on a mission in Afrin had crashed for reasons not yet clear, and the General Staff confirmed a crash without giving a cause. The SDF and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was shot down; English Wikipedia’s T129 article attributes it to YPG anti-aircraft fire. Turkey says the YPG and the PKK are one organisation; the YPG and its US partners rejected that. For the whole operation Turkey reported 54 soldiers killed, the SDF claimed 2,772 Turkish and allied fighters, and rights groups counted 395 to 510 civilians killed.

Výsledek Turkish-backed forces took the Jarabulus–al-Bab area, Afrin (18 March 2018) and a strip east of the Euphrates (2019), as recorded in the Turkish Air Force dataset.

Casualty figures are each side’s claims and differ widely; they are given as claims.

Claw-Eagle and Claw-Tiger followed in 2020. On 4 September 2022 a Sikorsky-type helicopter made an emergency landing on a supply flight in the Claw-Lock zone; one soldier, Ümit Kesti, was killed and seven were rescued. The Land Forces’ TB2 S5 also flew in the Claw operations. Iraq’s foreign ministry summoned the Turkish envoy on 16 April 2020 in protest.
