Cada operación en la que el Comando del Arma Aérea ha estado involucrado
Botswana’s air arm has no recorded air combat. The South African raid on Gaborone of 14 June 1985 was carried out by commandos on the ground; South Africa said it was attacking ANC targets, and the UN Security Council condemned it unanimously in Resolution 568. Later raids could not be dated in a checkable source and are left out. In Lesotho in 1998–1999 no air role is recorded, and in Mozambique in 2021–2024 the air arm’s C-130s supported the deployment. Where a consolidated sortie or loss figure exists in the official record it is given here; where accounts disagree, the range is shown and the disagreement named. Blank cells are blank because no figure could be verified, not because the fighting was small.

No air engagement is recorded; the raids were carried out by South African ground forces against ANC targets. Botswana’s armed forces were created because of cross-border raids, and their weakness was exposed by them. On 14 June 1985 South African forces raided Gaborone, attacking what Pretoria described as ANC targets; Wikipedia records four deaths at the Medu Art Ensemble. A week later the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 568, calling the raid a gross violation of Botswana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemning acts of aggression, kidnapping and murder against Botswana, and demanding compensation. A spokesman for President Reagan also condemned the attacks. The small air wing played no part that the sources record. Resultado The UN Security Council condemned the raid on 21 June 1985 in Resolution 568 and demanded compensation for Botswana. Later raids, including one reported for 1987, could not be dated or checked in an available source, so they are left out. Casualty figures for 1985 are Wikipedia’s; other accounts give different numbers.

Contributed 380 soldiers to the SADC task force; no air role is recorded in the sources found. In 1998 South Africa and Botswana sent troops into Lesotho under a SADC mandate after a political crisis. Wikipedia records 380 BDF soldiers in the task force. Whether Botswanan aircraft flew in support was not established, and the intervention’s wider history is outside this page. Resultado The task force withdrew in 1999. Included for completeness; the air arm’s part is unknown.

Contributed troops to SADC’s counter-insurgency mission; the air arm’s C-130s supported the deployment. President Mokgweetsi Masisi formally deployed BDF troops in July 2021; Wikipedia counts 296 personnel deployed that month. The force rotated through Cabo Delgado for almost three years, the last contingent serving from October 2023, and held its farewell parade on 5 April 2024. For the air arm the mission was a test of its thin transport fleet: a C-130 was damaged on the apron at Pemba by a Mozambican airliner in October 2021, and by 2023–2024 the last flying C-130B had been grounded. Resultado Botswana withdrew in April 2024; SAMIM left in July 2024 for lack of funds. Personnel figures and the deployment’s date are from Wikipedia and defenceWeb; the BDF’s own figures were not reachable.
